Spiral asks big questions at the center of our shared human experience: life and death, connection to one another and our world, identity, states of consciousness, the cosmos, and the nature of existence. By providing provocative and diverse perspectives on topics germane to the reader, Spiral casts the art in the Rubin’s collection in a new light and creates a connection between the reader and the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art.

Spiral consists of an array of born-digital content released on an ongoing basis throughout the year in a wide range of media, allowing visitors to read, watch, and listen to features on topics at the intersection of art, science, and Himalayan cultures.
Once a year, the Rubin publishes Spiral, the magazine, which is a print publication focused on a theme inspired by an idea that is central to the art in the Rubin’s collection. The issue offers different perspectives on that theme in ways that amplify and illuminate the idea in relation to everyday life.
