This digital exhibition and global art history project tells the story of the complex and intricate role of the Sogdians, influential traders from Central Asia near Samarkand during the Middle Ages. Interconnected texts, rich photography, interactive 3D models, and in-depth maps tell the story of how the Sogdians developed trade routes along the Silk Roads and exercised influence through mobility, language, religious flexibility, and visual culture rather than political and military might.
